Inspiration and Greeting

As we move towards the beginning of a new year, many people think about their New Year’s Resolutions. That’s a good thing, because, as Mel Robbins says, “your goals are no joke”. Before you plan your resolution, I recommend you watch this video. Be sure to watch through to the end:

One of the things that people often fail to consider is how important your dreams are. Goals often get dropped like hot potatoes, even family building goals. If you have one child and want a second, it is too easy to be influenced by people who say, “you should be grateful you have one”. Maybe you are single and feel “guilty” about bringing a child into the world as a single parent, or perhaps you are considering donor conception but fear that it is “less than” using your own genetics and fear a future where you will create a family that will be “less than” other families. We all get sucked into fears hammered into our heads by others or by the negative voice in our own minds. One of the things that can keep you going, and keep you true to yourself, is remembering your “why”.

Why do you want your dream to come true? What would that dream give you? How would realizing it make you feel? If you are not sure, maybe the negativity is overpowering your heart. Listen to the signs. Who are you jealous of? When do you feel your heart sinking? Do you feel a longing or dream trying to make its way into your life that gets pushed away with excuses or distractions?

We all need to make compromises. But what should not be compromised are our dreams. The dream may need to be modified. Perhaps using a donor is the best path to parenthood. Maybe the dream was to have a family by a certain age and it is taking longer than your friend or sister. Maybe it will be more difficult, expensive or upsetting than you planned, but if having a family is the ultimate goal, there are ways to get there. Just because the path looks different than you expected, it doesn’t mean the dream is over.

Please enjoy the video and let me know what you think about it and if there are other topics you would like to see covered in this newsletter. You can email me at lisa@familybuilding.net anytime.

Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy holiday and a year of actualized dreams.
